90s Advertisements Archive

The printed Strumming Teeth magazine's production and printing were made possible by its many generous advertisers and sponsors over the years.
Almost all of the advertisers were local small businesses, including retail stores, cafes, bars, clubs, hair salons, tattoo parlours and similar.
Most wanted their advertisement to be drawn by the artist behind the publication, setting them apart from any other promotional materials present at the time.
This arrangement made them more like artistic patrons than plain advertisers for advertising sake. Andy Conlan placed a lot of value on their support, and went to great efforts to make sure each drawn advertisement was its own distinct art piece.
The result has become something of a time capsule of the Auckland City of the mid to late 90s, preserving the names, feel and nature of the city's hotspots of the day, captured through the eye of one of its more idiosynchratic creatives.
